One of the most popular spots for both children and adults. From the outside, the building near the observation tower looks like a small castle, but inside it’s not a labyrinth of secret stone corridors—it’s a maze of mirrors. First, you’ll wander through a three-dimensional depiction of the battle between the people of Prague and the Swedes on Charles Bridge in 1648, and then, in the Hall of Laughter, your reflection in the convex and distorted mirrors will transform you into dwarves, hunchbacks, or tall, lanky figures.

The Technical and Documentation Museum of Prague’s Energy Sector traces the rich history of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution from the early 20th century to the present day.
Visitors will find extra-high, high, and low-voltage equipment, measuring instruments, work and safety gear, as well as documents chronicling the history of Prague’s electrification.  Among the exhibits are some real gems, such as a coin-operated electricity meter from 1938, a case containing an Ozonit medical device, a handwritten physics textbook, as well as state-of-the-art digital electricity meters and samples of 22 kV and 1 kV fiber-optic cables.

The exhibition *The Battle Between YES and NO* is the first major exhibition in the Czech Republic dedicated to William Kentridge, one of the most significant contemporary artists. Kentridge grew up in Johannesburg during the apartheid era, in a family deeply committed to the ideals of social justice. Even as a student, he became involved in anti-apartheid activist movements. These experiences shaped his artistic practice, which reflects the social and historical tensions of South Africa while also addressing universal themes of human existence.

The Best of the “Sports” Category in the Czech Press Photo 2021–2024 Competition

The Sports category has long been one of the most competitive in the Czech Press Photo competition. This is no coincidence: the Czech Republic is home to an exceptionally talented generation of sports photographers who combine quick reflexes with a keen sense of composition, emotion, and storytelling. They don’t just follow results and records, but also behind-the-scenes moments, the tension before the start, battles pushed to the limit, and the fragile moments after the finish or landing.

While Apolena Typltová focuses on the dilapidated environments of workshops, Radka Čejdíková finds inspiration in nature’s struggle with the decaying wrecks of cars in junkyards. At Galerie Kurzor, look forward to the second exhibition in the series “Conversations on Reproductions,” titled “The Structure of the Image System.” The common theme among the three exhibiting artists—Jan Nálevka, Adéla Svobodová, and Ally Dau—is a reflection on the image as a record of the process that shaped it.

This year’s exhibition program at the Kurzor Gallery is based on conversations between Hana Buddeus, Zbyněk Baladrán, Meghan Forbes, and Adéla Svobodová.

Structure of the image system

The exhibition will present a selection of works from recent years by the painter and sculptor (1945–2025), who passed away unexpectedly. His work is characterized by the clash between spontaneous and explosive painterly gestures and their “overlaying” or channeling through lines and other geometric shapes.

MEETING WITH THE EXHIBITION ORGANIZER: From 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., art theorist PhDr. František Malina, or his representative, will be present in the exhibition hall, and you will have the opportunity to speak with him about the work of painter and sculptor František Koudelka and his exhibition at the New Town Hall.

The NGP’s Asian Art Collection presents, in a new permanent exhibition at the Salm Palace, a selection of 520 works of art from Asia and the Islamic world, created over a span of 5,000 years and, among other things, situated within the context of cultural relations with Central Europe.
Organized into two main sections, the exhibition focuses on themes related to the cultural history of the Czech lands and highlights the qualities and significance of works from Asian and Islamic visual cultures within their original contexts. It also reveals the provenance of the works, including how they were acquired for the NGP collections.

The introductory section recalls the historical framework of European Orientalism and colonial policy, which contributed to the spread of awareness of Asian and Islamic artistic traditions as well as to collecting in the Czech lands from the 16th to the 20th century. In addition to historical presentations of Asian and Middle Eastern countries within the context of world exhibitions, shop windows displaying goods from the “Orient,” or private interiors with “Oriental” décor, the exhibition features prominent Czech scholars, collectors, and artists from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries who reflected on Asian and Islamic art through scholarly or creative means.

The second, more extensive section of the exhibition presents Chinese, Japanese, Tibetan, Indian, and Islamic cultural spheres from the 3rd millennium BCE to the present day, viewed through the lens of a contemporary interdisciplinary approach combining art history, Asian and Islamic studies, and museology. Within thematic contexts, the exhibition explores spiritual traditions, writing and calligraphy, decoration and ornamentation, and the natural and human worlds in individual visual cultures. The representation of cultural regions and historical periods is uneven, reflecting the nature of collecting in the Czech lands.
The exhibition opens up space for exploring intercultural connections and critically revising historical approaches as one of the goals of decolonization in museum practice. It seeks to bridge stereotypical Eurocentric perspectives and incorporate the approaches of Asian experts in the interpretation and presentation of works to foster a more comprehensive understanding. The exhibition features audiovisual and interactive elements, an audio guide, spaces for rest and meditation, and an educational workshop.

The current exhibition, ECHOES OF TOMORROW, spans 2,500 square meters and combines cutting-edge technology with a deeply emotional experience. Through light, movement, and sound, it explores the echoes of the digital world in our reality.
 
The internationally acclaimed exhibition is currently complemented by the accompanying exhibition Dream on! Where it all began, which takes you back in time to relive memories of the Signal Festival’s most popular video mapping collection.
 
Until the end of August, a single ticket will give you two unforgettable experiences. The immersive installation is further enhanced by the interactive Signal Playground zone designed for children. The exhibition thus offers a fascinating audiovisual adventure for visitors of all ages.

Come take a look into the world of teeth, jaws, and real anthropological finds. During the workshop, you’ll uncover traces of disease and the daily lives of our ancestors, and discover why prevention is more important than we think.

Hidden, unique, romantic—that is how the garden of Šternberk Palace is often described. It offers a view of the palace’s most beautiful architectural features, provides a glimpse into the Deer Moat, and presents a rare opportunity for contemplation beneath majestic trees. Yet the garden’s tranquility is only apparent. Is the athletic Odysseus not attacking the woman playing with a dolphin? Is the girl cautiously making her way toward the pond not in danger? Probably not. The stork continues to intently watch the fish in the water, undisturbed. Let’s explore together the possible interactions between the figures cast in bronze and stone in this magical garden. An exclusive selection of 20th-century Czech sculpture offers us this opportunity. We will walk past sculptures by Jan Štursa, Jan Lauda, and Hana Wichterlová. Lecture by Jitka Handlová.

Art Up Close: Sculptures That Come to Life in the Garden

The performance by Tereza Silon & others at the Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia intertwines text, movement, and sound. It offers an original exploration of mysticism, physicality, and collective experience, drawing loose inspiration from the book *Heavy and Grace*, the biography of Simone Weil, and the symbolism of the convent’s plants.
“The only thing that can be an end in itself, since it is the only thing in relation to the human individual that possesses a certain kind of transcendence, is collectivity.”* Simone Weil, Gravity and Grace.

From asceticism to erotic transcendence—mystical traditions are forms of embodied knowledge across cultures and religions. Mysticism is a practical tool for connecting with that which transcends us.

In a performance taking place in a historic monastery complex, Tereza Silon, together with performers Lea Elisha and Adéla Sobotková, will explore artistically rendered references to mysticism from history to the present through text and movement, accompanied by a sound composition by Adéla Sobotková (aka New Magic Media). Inspiration will also draw from the work and biographical moments of Simone Weil, a French Christian mystic, philosopher, and political activist, whose themes the texts will freely develop and interweave.

Further inspiration will come from the plants in the monastery gardens, many of which belong to the Rosaceae family—visually associated, through their five-petaled flowers, with the orbit of Venus. Hildegard of Bingen, one of the most famous mystics and polymaths, describes in her concept of viriditas as the opposite of sin everything that is “wet, green, moist, and juicy.”

Come refresh your spirit, listen to poetry and audio recordings, and experience a performance with us.

The program will begin in the monastery gardens with an artistic botanical walk, during which we will stop at selected shrubs, trees, and plants, as well as at the ongoing hydrodistillation of herbs.

We will then move to the interior of the monastery, where the program will continue.

The Old Masters exhibition at the Schwarzenberg Palace presents a selection of the most significant masterpieces from the Collection of Old Art (Hans von Aachen, Petr Brandl, Matyáš Bernard Braun, Lucas Cranach, Adriaen de Vries, Albrecht Dürer, El Greco, Hans Holbein, Jan Gossaert, known as Mabuse, Peter Paul Rubens, Bartholomaeus Spranger, Karel Škréta, Michael Leopold Willmann, and others).

Its primary time frame spans the 16th to the 18th centuries, based on a retrospective view of pre-Renaissance tendencies in Gothic art and ancient works as sources of inspiration for Renaissance and Baroque art. The exhibition is conceived as a dialogue between national and international impulses, influences, and changes in the spirit of a dialectic of forms, styles, and motifs. From a curatorial perspective, it reflects the narrative aspects of European art from antiquity to the Enlightenment, historical contexts, and the timelessness of masterful works of art in an innovative installation. One section of the exhibition is dedicated to artistic production in Bohemia during the Baroque period, led by the prominent painters Karel Škréta and Petr Brandl, and the sculptor Matyáš Bernard Braun.

As part of the main entrance to the Schwarzenberg Palace, the original entrance from Hradčanské Square through the courtyard has been restored. Three halls on the ground floor are reserved for temporary collection exhibitions, and two rooms will serve as graphic art galleries.

During Museum Night 2026, the Rothmayer family villa will open its doors to visitors in the evening. The house was home to Božena Horneková-Rothmayerová, a fashion reformer; Otto Rothmayer, the architect of Prague Castle; and their son Jan, a technological visionary who transformed the villa into a prototype of today’s smart home.
The villa will be open for self-guided tours from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, allowing you to experience the nighttime atmosphere of the villa and its gardens.

From the Brick Gate, you’ll walk through a historic corridor to the monumental Gorlice Hall—the largest underground hall in historic Prague, which was actually created by accident during the construction of the fortress. It is here that six original Baroque statues from Charles Bridge are on display.

A Tour of Vladimír Škoda’s Exhibition “Order and Intuition”

The “Old Prague” lamplighter, whom you may encounter during Advent as he lights the gas lamps on Charles Bridge, 
will give you a guided tour covering the history and present state of gas lamps—both street and indoor. 

At the entrance to the Pražská plynárenská complex, where the museum is located, a massive flame will shoot up toward the sky from a sculpture depicting the production of gas from coal. The sculpture is lit only on exceptional occasions, which Prague Museum Night certainly is.

Experience the world of banknotes through your own creations. You can design your own currency at our creative workshop, while learning interesting facts from the world of banknotes and testing your knowledge of security features.

Discover the former air-raid shelters of the SS military hospital in Podolí. The period furnishings in the command room, infirmary, and other stations will transport you back to the dramatic periods of the 20th century and introduce you to the lesser-known history of Vyšehrad.

Get an up-close look at what life was like for a farmer—six interactive stations await you, where you can try your hand at milking a cow, churning butter, washing clothes on a washboard, grinding grain, cleaning the barn, or stomping grapes.

What did the work of a steward involve?

The exhibition by Czech photographer Bet Orten, YOUR BLOOD / MY ROSE, offers insight into key themes in the artist’s work, particularly the diverse aspects of the female experience. The works are presented in an unconventional installation that goes beyond the scope of traditional photography. The exhibition is complemented by photographic objects and installations featuring immersive elements.

The Martin Casemates will captivate you with their mysterious, almost mystical atmosphere. The candlelit underground passages offer a unique experience and serve as a reminder of the days when soldiers defended the Vyšehrad Fortress against enemies.

Small Gallery at Chodov Fortress June 3 – July 26, 2026 Ivan Král, a native of Prague, was one of the most original Czech art photographers. Ivan Král’s unique perspective reflects his keen eye for detail and his perception of the world through the lens.

During Museum Night, the former Church of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist—hidden within the walls of Vyšehrad—will also open its doors; it houses stone fragments of the Baroque decorations from the Vyšehrad Basilica. 

In the sacristy, visitors will find a blacksmith’s workshop with demonstrations of coin minting, as well as a themed sales booth featuring handicrafts from the Historica Bohemica association. Since April of this year, the association has been based in the Špička Gate, which will also be open during Museum Night.

GEOLAB is a collection of interactive activities and games that let you try your hand at being a geographer or form your own perspective on current geographic issues. 

Can you spot errors in maps? Can you recognize satellite images? Can you match age pyramids to the correct country? Do you know where your T-shirt comes from? You’ll find the answers to these and other questions when you try our activities—and you might even discover that you enjoy geography too.

The “Old Masters II” collection exhibition follows on from the “Old Masters I” exhibition located in the Schwarzenberg Palace across the street. The two exhibitions complement each other to form a single whole, while also presenting magnificent works of art in different contexts.

The exhibition at the Šternberk Palace continues the historical tradition of presenting masterpieces in this building, which housed the Society of Patriotic Friends of the Arts from 1811 to 1871, the predecessor of today’s National Gallery in Prague. This time, the works will be exhibited in the context of artistic centers and their interconnections. Old Masters II presents the best of the unique collections of the National Gallery in Prague and its partners—for example, a unique collection of icons preserved in Prague that sheds light on the extraordinary personality of the collector Nikodem P. Kondakov. On display is a truly exceptional collection of 14th- and 15th-century Italian painting, most of which was assembled by Francesco Ferdinando d’Este. This collection is the largest body of so-called Italian Primitives preserved outside of Italy itself and offers a glimpse into artistic production in the Italian cities of Siena, Florence, Venice, and Padua.

The collection of early Italian art is followed by an exhibition of Renaissance and Baroque paintings (Alessandro Allori, Jacopo Bassano, Jusepe Ribera). Exceptional collections of Dutch, Flemish, and Dutch painting from the 15th to 18th centuries are represented, with a focus on the artistic output of Antwerp, Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Leiden (Herri met de Bles, Pieter II Brueghel, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, Rachel Ruysch, Gerard Ter Borch, Frans Hals).

A rare piece is the altarpiece depicting the Crucifixion by Hans Raphon. It is the only fully preserved altarpiece depicting the Passion of Christ in domestic public collections. Central European art is represented by a collection of Nuremberg paintings and selected individual works created in what is now Germany, particularly in the important commercial and artistic region of the Rhineland, dating from the 15th to the 18th centuries (Hans Baldung Grien, Hans Dürer). The exhibition also features artistic works from Germany and Austria created during the 17th and 18th centuries (Georg Flegel, Paul Troger, Johann Carl Loth, Johann Michael Rottmayr). A smaller collection of 17th- and 18th-century French and Spanish art stands out for the significance and quality of the individual works on display (Simon Vouet, Pierre Mignard, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Francisco José Goya).

The association was founded after 1990 and has been active on the art scene for more than 30 years. It brings together primarily Prague-based professional artists—painters, sculptors, and graphic artists of all generations—who share a diverse perspective on the world. The artists believe that this perspective, captured in their works of art, will evoke the finest emotions and a genuine experience in viewers.

As part of the 19th Prague Museum Night, the Smečka Gallery will host the “Experience Collage” workshop, where visitors can step into the world of collage:

1. Individual Collage
- Create your own collage and take your artwork home with you
- Learn about various collage techniques

2. Collective collage
- Join in on a collective collage and become a co-creator of a collaborative piece, which we will subsequently exhibit at the Smečky Gallery

3. Everything That Is Waste
- Artworks can also be created by recycling materials we consider waste. Together, we will create such a work from various interesting objects, 
and thus attempt to emulate Trinkewitz’s assemblage *Alles, was der Fall ist*

4. Kolář’s Poetry
- Relax and let yourself be inspired by the poetry of Jiří Kolář, one of the most significant Czech collage artists


Experience a collage 

Visit the interactive exhibition Behind the Currency, which presents the current roles of the central bank, as well as the exhibition People and Money, located in a historic strongroom and dedicated to the history of money and central banking. You can also explore the newest part of the People and Money exhibition: Alois Rašín’s Study, all set in a unique evening atmosphere.


Tour of the CNB Visitor Centre’s Prague exhibitions

Tourism is a modern phenomenon whose origins date back to the late 18th century. How much has it changed from its beginnings to the present day? How does it affect people’s daily lives? How are destinations around the world changing as a result of tourism? What are its positives and negatives? And what does the future hold for the travel of 7 billion people across our planet?  
Tourism is a multifaceted phenomenon that today seems self-evident, a natural part of our lives. In reality, however, it is a surprisingly young “invention.” It emerged only at the end of the 18th century alongside the Industrial Revolution, a shift in the perception of time, the development of transportation, bourgeois culture, and new ideas about leisure, health, nature, and romantic experiences. Today, tourism is primarily about the tourists themselves. The history of tourism is not just the history of places, but above all the history of people—of all of us.
The unchecked boom in tourism began in the second half of the 20th century and has gradually brought with it global problems. In this exhibition installation, we aim to illustrate the transformation by which the daring travels of individuals became a mass phenomenon that reshaped the landscape, cities, the human body, and our imagination. We aim to present tourism as a cultural practice, a lifestyle, and a way in which contemporary people seek meaning, beauty, regeneration, adventure—and sometimes even themselves. We seek to address critical issues regarding tourism’s impact on society, nature, cities, and entire countries; its environmental consequences; the issue of overtourism; and the overall unsustainability of this current global situation. 
The exhibition Tourism: Our Luxury, Our Suffering is created in collaboration with Jan Pezda, author of the book Sun, Water, Air. It combines documentary materials, data, and expert information with works of art by contemporary artists.

Tourism: Our Luxury, Our Agony

The Second Fire is an immersive look at Lake Baikal in Siberia, the oldest, deepest and most voluminous lake in the world. Authors Gabriela Bulisová and Mark Isaac spent a year in eastern Siberia and created a multifaceted project that places special emphasis on the lake’s environmental problems. They capture the vastness and majesty of the lake, intimate moments of its resilient inhabitants and quirky sites, and the urgent dangers that threaten them.

To mark Prague Museum Night and International Archives Day, the CNB Visitor Center—specifically its CNB Archives division—will offer visitors the opportunity to learn about the history of the first Czechoslovak central bank.
 
The exhibition “The Czechoslovak National Bank: The First Independent Guardian of the Czechoslovak Currency” focuses on the establishment and operations of the Czechoslovak National Bank from 1926 to 1950—that is, from its founding until the moment its functions were taken over by the Czechoslovak State Bank.

The exhibition, created as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Czechoslovak National Bank, will also feature a special presentation of archival materials related to its founding in 1926.
