Chodovska fortress

Originally a medieval moated fortress, it served as a defensive stronghold surrounded by a moat. Over the centuries, it changed both owners and appearance, from the Knights of the Order of the Holy Land to the Benedictines, who converted it into a Baroque manor house in the 17th century. The fortress acquired its current Classicist appearance with an arcaded courtyard in the early 19th century under the leadership of the Korb family of Weidenheim. In the 20th century, the building underwent a fundamental transformation. After a period of neglect, the fortress was sensitively renovated for cultural purposes between 1984 and 1988. Historical elements were preserved and integrated with modern uses, creating a unique space in the heart of Jižní Město. Today, Chodovská tvrz is a popular cultural center operated by the organization KULTURNÍ JIZNÍ MĚSTO, o.p.s.
